Big Pink Bag

I walked into the Vision Center at Sam’s Club. I filled out some paperwork, and then they were ready to see me. “You can just bring her over here with you,” the guy said. HER, I thought? That guy just called my son a girl! This was the first time this had happened. Cade has gone through almost 4 months of life without being called a she. Why did that guy think he was a she, I thought. Was it because of his full head of beautiful hair or because of his rosy, plump cheeks? We have a very gender neutral (black, green and silver) infant carrier, so that wasn’t it. Then I looked on the floor next to the infant carrier and saw my enormous pink bag. Now it’s not a diaper bag per se; it’s just a regular woman’s bag, but it is big enough to carry everything I/we need: diapers, wipes, changing pad, bottles, formula, bottle of water, toys, change of clothes for Cade, burp cloth, wallet, girly things for the mama, etc. So just because I have a son, I can’t carry a girly bag anymore? This is not what I signed up for when I decided to become a parent! Well, I don’t care; I will still carry my girly “diaper” bag no matter how many people call my son a girl!
